The body cannot produce B vitamins itself. Some B vitamins (vitamin B1, pantothenic acid, and niacin) play a role in normal energy metabolism, in the normal function of the nervous system (vitamins B1, B2, and B6), and other B vitamins in the maintenance (vitamin B2) and formation (vitamin B12) of red blood cells.
¹Vitamin B1, pantothenic acid, and niacin contribute to normal energy metabolism; vitamins B1, B2, and B6 are involved in the normal function of the nervous system. Pantothenic acid contributes to normal mental performance. Folic acid and vitamin B12 have a role in cell division, and vitamin B12 contributes to normal red blood cell formation. Folic acid contributes to normal homocysteine metabolism. Niacin, vitamin B2, vitamin B6, and vitamin B12 can contribute to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue.
